Why does jigsaw have a puppet




















Spiral: From the Book of Saw is much more about passing references to the main franchise that make the movie feel like it's in the same universe , but not dependant on those movies. To that end, Spiral does have a puppet character, it's just not the one that fans know. There are references to John Kramer and the events of the previous films, but not in any way that's actually important to this movie.

Spiral is actually a very different sort of film. It's not about the people stuck in the traps trying to find their way out, or about the killers themselves , but about a police officer trying to capture thw bad guy, it's a complete switch from the main franchise. Darren Lynn Bousman says he felt just trying to do "another" Jigsaw killer was the wrong move for the fans So for me, I wanted to go a completely different way.

I wanted the killer to be so different from Jigsaw that there would be no comparison to that. They are different people. So when you start going down that road, you have to change out kind of everything. Even so, the puppet's origin and tragic connection to the series' antagonist remain lesser-known. Several characters in the Saw franchise pop up in a handful of the movies, a prime example being Amanda Young Shawnee Smith.

Once thought to be a fellow victim, it's later revealed she now works alongside Kramer. During Saw III , a flashback places Kramer in a dimly lit room, prepping Billy for Young's game by carefully painting the puppet's face. While this is the first time the series alludes to Kramer creating Billy, it isn't until the following film that the doll's origin is explicitly told. By depicting events leading up to a life of immoral behavior, Saw IV gives Kramer a bit of backstory.

For instance, through the use of flashbacks, viewers are shown that Billy's first construction was far less frightening. In contrast to present-day Billy, this version of the puppet was a gift intended for Kramer's wife, Jill Tuck Betsy Russell , and their unborn child. In an exclusive interview with RadioTimes. As it turns out, it all comes down to the fact that Spiral is not going by the title Saw 9. Spiral: From the Book of Saw is not called Saw 9 for a reason.
